First off, CONGRATULATIONS!!! Becoming a published author is a major accomplishment so pat yourself on the back for that. So many dream of being where you are. Now, that the easy work is done (yes, I said easy), here comes for the hard part. I don’t want to scare because it may not be that hard for you but there is work after all the other work you just finished!
If you haven’t already began marketing your book, then you have some work to do. You wrote an awesome book, but no one will know if you aren’t marketing and promoting your book. Use social media such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to promote your book and yourself as an expert in the subject matter you wrote. People won’t know if you don’t tell them.
You don’t have to feel like a cheap salesperson either. Just let people know the benefits of reading your book and how it can improve their life. Make sure when you’re posting to social media that you provide a link to purchase. Make it easy for people to purchase your book.
This is a great way to get the word out about your book and position yourself as an expert. Have business cards ready (or even a book mark with your contact information) when out at events. Even bring a book or two. Depending on the function you may want to provide a copy to the organizer and possible pitch yourself to come a speak to the group one day. If giving a physical copy is costly then, offer to send them a complimentary e-book. This is a great way to get their email and be able to follow up as well.
Create your own events
Events are a great way to meet readers face to face and grow a loyal fan base. Make the event is engaging. You want people to leave knowing more about you, the book and even with a few copies of your book (wink!).
Depending on your target market, create a hashtag for people to use at the event. A lot of people love taking pictures and selfies of themselves. Ask them that if they do take pictures at the event, to use a hashtag when they post on social media. This allows you to be able to locate the pictures quicker and to build awareness.
Book Speaking Engagements
Speaking at events are an great way to build your brand and awareness about your book. Make sure your introduction includes that you are an author. Throughout your speaking make sure you tie in or mention your book. Great speakers know how to sell from the stage!
