Pastors Erik and Emi Clanton of Founders of The Salt Life Experience.
What is your purpose or assignment in the body of Christ?
We are all about being the Salt. Matthew 5:13
We are called to bring the world and even the religious community fresh, new flava. As Salt, we should be seasoning the world, healing it and preserving it. We are a non-denominational, non-traditional, contemporary. modern ministry. We appeal to the millennial and forward thinking demographic.
How is your ministry impacting the community?
We encourage people to go out into the world, the entertainment industry, sports, tv, education, health and medical, real estate, law, all areas and influence their peers for Christ through their life and relationship with God.
The Salt Life Ministries mission is to effectively empower, equip, and send out the next generation of leaders to take the relevant word of God to change the world.
If the nine fruits of the spirit were on a tree (love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control), what fruit would you say would easiest for you to reach?
Which one would be the hardest?
Gentleness: Because of my 'say it like it is' nature, I like to shoot straight from the hip. Which sometimes causes me to be a little harsh or brash. I have to intentionally contemplate "how" I say something before I actually "say" it.
In your experiences with ministry, what word(s) would you have for someone who is still trying to find who they are in Christ?
Don't be so hard on yourself. God reveals himself to you and your identity in stages. Its not something that you can rush. Stay grounded in the things of God, keep your relationship fresh with the Lord, and relax. seek the peace of God and in that peace you will be still enough to hear him clearly tell you what you need to know for that season.
Besides church, where is your favorite place to be and why?
My husband would say the gym. He would work out 3 hour a day if I let him lol! He enjoys working on building his strength. It's an inspiring and empowering environment for him to be around those that are pushing their bodies to the next level and relaxes him.
As for me (Emi), my favorite place besides church is a bookstore with a coffee shop (Barnes and Nobles/Borders) or any cafe that encourages coffee and study. It's more of my mental gym. I could stay here for hours. I loveeee coffee, it makes my creative juices flow. And I love being around so many books. It encourages me to study and thirst for knowledge.
What is one things you can share that most people wouldn't know about you?
Many people don't know that my husband and I initially ran from Pastoring. It was prophesied and we had dreams about having a church, but we ran from it for years. I tell everybody, 'I was supposed to be the next Tamar Braxton! I was singing and writing music and acting on TV. I didn't want to do the Church thing let alone Pastor. And my husband was supposed to be the next Ray Lewis. He went to the NFL only to shortly after get hurt really bad. Now he loves his job more than ever as a GA Police Officer, but still ministry was something he didn't see happening for a long while, let alone us Pastoring before we even hit our thirties. But since we've answered the call and stopped running, we have felt a sense of peace and purpose that greatly eclipses everything else! God truly knows whats best.
There are people who are searching for a church home. How would you invite someone to your church?
First, i always like to find common ground with whoever I'm talking to before i invite them to experience our ministry. It could be complementing them on their outfit or seeing that we have the same hair style or shoes. I first like to authentically connect with someone even if its only for 60 seconds before i invite them out. Then, i ask them where they live, where they worship, and if they seem interested in my personality and my faith, i will just go for it and ask them! I give them a card or a flyer, tell them when we are meeting next and ask them to viva our website so they can watch our video that explains the ministry further. The video typically seals the deal and they like what they see. That we are just a young couple with a desire to lead others to success in life through Jesus Christ. www.SaltLifeExperience.com
