Owning your own business is no joke. It takes lots of effort and hard work. Sorry, folks, it’s not just about having a passion. Passion is definitely needed, but so are a few other key elements, namely drive, determination, vision and faith; they will be so absolutely necessary to making your business a successful one.
Let’s start with vision. Vision will be the hallmark of your business success. However, you won’t succeed if you have no idea of what success looks like to you. What is at the end of the road of all that hard work? Have a clear vision of success for yourself and for your business. Your personal vision is intertwined with your business success. Don’t hesitate to line the two up. And please don’t limit your vision, but don’t ignore setting the short term, attainable goals, either.
The next element that is so crucial is drive. Literally, drive will propel your business forward. In fact, drive will make you get out of bed every morning, not passion alone.
Determination cannot be ignored. If you are not determined to see your business succeed, than any pitfall, any stumbling block, no matter how slight, will deter you. In Ecclesiastes 9:10 we are told “Whatever you do, do well…” In other words, not only be determined to run your business, rather be determined to run your business with excellence. You rise to the top with determination and excellence.
Last, Faith should be included as part of your elements of success. Faith will keep you going even when you might be discouraged; even when you think you have no more drive and the only determination that is left is the resolve to abandon your dream of success. Having faith will lift you up and carry you when all else fails.
Have faith in your abilities and, most importantly, have faith in where Jesus and God can help you go with your business.
Throughout his teachings, Jesus tells us to have faith. God expected us to have faith and clearly demonstrated what happened when there was a lack of faith. He expected faith in him and his wonders. For example, Noah built his ark based on faith; Abraham obeyed God’s command based on faith, and Jesus gathered his disciples and followers based on faith. Quite simply, “Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” (Hebrews 11:1.) You should have no less faith in the success of your business.
How do you measure your passion, drive, determination and faith? Feel free to leave a message about what you believe to be important to a successful business.
Until next time, continue to take steps of excellency and you will leave behind a trail of greatness.
