IF YOU FEEL POOR, HOW DO YOU DEFINE WEALTH?

How do you define wealth? Sounds like a simple question, but in truth, it can be a very difficult (not to mention different) answer depending on who you ask. If that is the case, how do you know when you have it?

Many people appear to live meager and miserly lives because they are unable to step back and define what real wealth is to them. They are unable to embrace the thought that real wealth does not necessarily begin and end with having lots of money. That is very one dimensional thinking which can lead to a life spent in continually seeking and acquiring money, but never reaching satisfaction.
A change of perspective may be necessary in order for you to feel wealthy. God wants us all to prosper. According to Philippians 4:19, God has promised to supply all of our needs.
If we follow God’s precepts, I submit that you must exam what you already have in your life and look on it with gratitude. Once you acquire the ability to be thankful for what is presented to you, it will not be as difficult to feel abundant and wealthy.
Here are some suggestions to help you define and feel wealthy and, from feeling wealthy, make it possible to gain a sense of satisfaction with life:
  • Make a list of everything you are grateful for, no matter how mundane. For example, there are some who went to bed last night, but did not get up this morning or they got up and were unable to speak or had some other illness. The fact that I am here and whole ranks at the top of my list every day. That may seem mundane until you lose it.
  • Make a list of what you want to accomplish during the day. Again, don’t leave off what may seem small and mundane. Every journey begins with a step. The size of the step is determined by the size of your shoe, nothing else.
  • Don’t limit your thinking to only money. It is true, money is a factor in your level of freedom, but it is not everything and is only a means to an end.
  • When considering money, be definite about how much it would take for you to consider yourself wealthy and comfortable. Write it down. Believe that you can achieve it.
  • Last, attach your gratitude list in a place where you can see it daily. Add to it as your life’s circumstances change. It is amazing how wealthy you will begin to feel.
If you are unable to view what you already have in a positive light and feel grateful for it, the result will be a poor, “have not attitude” no matter how much you have. You may never have enough to feel wealthy because your definition may be a moving target that is never achieved. You won’t be able to recognize wealth if you can’t define it.
Walking in Faith, until next time. Continue to take steps of excellency and you will leave behind a trail of greatness.
